【摘要】:Thispracticeisusedtoassesstheindigenousinclusionsorsecond-phaseconstituentsinmetalsusingextremevaluestatistics.Itiswellknownthatfailuresofmechanicalcomponents,suchasgearsandbearings,areoftencausedbythepresenceoflargenonmetallicoxideinclusions.Failureofacomponentcanoftenbetracedtothepresenceofalargeinclusion.PredictionsrelatedtocomponentfatiguelifearenotpossiblewiththeevaluationsprovidedbystandardssuchasTestMethodsE45,PracticeE1122,orPracticeE1245.Theuseofextremevaluestatisticshasbeenrelatedtocomponentlifeandinclusionsizedistributionsbyseveraldifferentinvestigators(3-8).Thepurposeofthispracticeistocreateastandardizedmethodofperformingthisanalysis.Thispracticeisnotsuitableforassessingtheexogenousinclusionsinsteelsandothermetalsbecauseoftheunpredictablenatureofthedistributionofexogenousinclusions.Othermethodsinvolvingcompleteinspectionsuchasultrasonicsmustbeusedtolocatetheirpresence.1.1Thispracticedescribesamethodologytostatisticallycharacterizethedistributionofthelargestindigenousnonmetallicinclusionsinsteelspecimensbaseduponquantitativemetallographicmeasurements.Thepracticeisnotsuitableforassessingexogenousinclusions.1.2Baseduponthestatisticalanalysis,thenonmetalliccontentofdifferentlotsofsteelscanbecompared.1.3Thispracticedealsonlywiththerecommendedtestmethodsandnothinginitshouldbeconstruedasdefiningorestablishinglimitsofacceptability.1.4ThemeasuredvaluesarestatedinSIunits.Formeasurementsobtainedfromlightmicroscopy,linearfeatureparametersshallbereportedasmicrometers,andfeatureareasshallbereportedasmicrometers.1.5Themethodologycanbeextendedtoothermaterialsandtoothermicrostructuralfeatures.1.6Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
